Your Biggest Goal in Social Media Marketing

soccer-goalSocial media marketing is not something that you should be doing without some sort of plan.

When you have a plan you know where you are going. A part of that social media marketing plan should be a list of goals – achievements that can be measured so you know how well you are doing. In fact, goals are useful in any part of your life, but when you are trying to earn an income, a list of goals is necessary.

With that thought in mind, there is one goal that you should always strive to obtain, and then maintain, in social media marketing.

Your BIGGEST goal in Social Media Marketing

There are thousands of different goals that you can have. Each person will have their own special circumstances and needs so no two goals will be exactly alike. However, there should always be one that remains near the top.

Most Important Goal = To Be Natural

When most people get started with social media marketing two things happen. First, they are overwhelmed by all the different social media sites, information, people, and trying to find a rhythm. Second, they try too hard.

Natural Social Media Marketing

Being natural basically means that you are being you and not forcing anything. With social media marketing it is all about they you interact with others. If it is forced, if you are trying too hard to come up with things to post or update, then it will be seen right away. This is especially true if the only updates to your social media profiles is links to your website or products.

To take that concept a little further – if all of your updates contain a link to any website then you are not really being natural either.

A natural approach to social marketing means that you are casually adding things to your update stream as they happen. Not just scouring for links, posts, and pithy sayings to ReTweet or share. Do not get stuck in the thinking that social media marketing is just marketing. It isn’t. It is sharing.

When you are with a group of your friends are you always trying to sell them on something? Or, are you just sharing with them the events of your life? That same approach is what your social media marketing should look like. Natural. Unforced.

Social Media Marketing Today

I finished reading a blog post today about how social networking is changing. And it is changing as a very fast clip. It is moving towards more and more sharing than it is as a stream of marketing. Even the large companies that use social marketing are not always into pushing out marketing messages. They realize that there being natural in their approach is the way people interact today.

When putting together your own social networking plan remember to keep it natural. You can list a bunch of different goals, but make sure you constantly strive to achieve the number one social marketing goal; be natural.
